Enhanced PAcT Kits

What are Enhanced Public Access Trauma (PAcT) Kits?

Enhanced Public Access Trauma (PAcT) Kits are specially designed medical kits for use in emergencies, particularly when someone has suffered serious trauma. These kits include a range of life-saving items such as bandages, tourniquets, airway management tools, and bleeding control equipment.

The enhanced version created by us goes a step further by including additional supplies, designed to tackle a wider variety of trauma situations.

The main benefit of these kits is that they are made to be easily accessible by the public, meaning anyone can use them in an emergency.

What are the limitations of Standard Public Access Trauma Kits?

Traditional Public Access Trauma Kits are designed to provide basic first aid in emergencies. They typically include things like bandages, dressings, tourniquets, and some basic tools for managing injuries. These kits are designed to be used by the general public in an emergency to stablise a patient until the emergency services can arrive and take over.

However, standard kits have limitations. 8 years of The Daniel Baird Foundation providing over 35,000 bleed kits across the UK has shown that some of the most frequently used life-saving equipment are the Celox Haemostatic Gauze and the Vented Chest Seal.

Neither of these life saving devices are specified in the PAcT kit standard which has led Turtle Medical to develop the Enhanced Public Access Trauma Kit.

Why are Enhanced PAcT Kits important?

When an accident or emergency happens, the first few minutes are vital. Enhanced PAcT Kits help provide quick, effective care during this time.

Here’s why they matter:

  • Immediate care can make all the difference when someone is injured. These kits enable ordinary members of the public to step in and help before paramedics arrive.
  • Proper care like controlling bleeding or clearing airways can prevent further damage and reduce the risk of death or long-term complications.
  • The right tools, like those in the Enhanced PAcT Kit, help give people the best chance of survival until they can receive full medical treatment.
  • These kits are designed to be used by the public, not just medical professionals. Whether it’s a bystander or a trained first responder, anyone can help in an emergency.

What is Martyn’s Law?

Martyn’s Law, also known as the The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, is a law aimed at improving security in public spaces. It’s named after one of the victims of the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing and focuses on making sure public venues are better prepared for potential attacks.

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 – Martyn’s Law received Royal Assent on the 3rd April 2025 and is beginning a 2-year implementation period before the law comes into full force allowing businesses to prepare and regulators be set up.

Martyn’s Law includes:

  • Risk assessments to identify possible threats
  • Security and emergency training for staff
  • Safety measures like bag checks and metal detectors
  • Easily accessible Public Access Trauma Kits

If you run a public venue or are planning an event, you’ll likely need to follow these rules, so getting ready now will make things easier later.

Who needs Enhanced PAcT Kits?

Enhanced PAcT Kits are important tools in any setting where injuries could occur. They should be available in public places such as shopping centres, schools, sports venues, temporary events and workplaces, where accidents or sudden health emergencies can happen at any time.

In high-risk workplaces like construction sites or factories, where accidents are more common, it’s even more important to have these kits readily available.

Transport services, including buses, trains, and even planes, can be unpredictable, making these kits vital for responding to emergencies when help is far away.

Outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, or working in remote areas, also come with risks.

With an Enhanced PAcT Kit, you can provide immediate care if an injury happens far from medical help. Whether you’re a member of the public, an employee, or organising an event, these kits are an essential resource in emergencies.
