Defibrillator Cabinets

Why do you need a defibrillator cabinet?

If you’ve got a defibrillator, you need somewhere safe to store it. A defibrillator cabinet, (also called a defib cabinet) does exactly that, keeping the device protected, easy to find, and ready to use in an emergency.

Defibrillators can make all the difference when someone goes into sudden cardiac arrest, but only if they’re in good working order and easy to access. That’s why these defibrillator cabinets are usually bright yellow, as they stand out when every second counts. Whether you’re installing one indoors or outdoors, high quality defibrillator cabinets help ensure your device is always where it needs to be.

Security is another big consideration, especially in public areas. Sadly, theft and vandalism are real concerns, and the last thing you want is for a defibrillator to be missing when it’s needed most. Lockable, high-quality defibrillator cabinets can help prevent misuse while still allowing easy access in an emergency. Some even come with alarms that sound when the door is opened.

How to choose the right defib cabinet?

Picking the right cabinet depends on where it’ll be installed and how much protection it needs. Here are some key things to consider:

  • Indoor vs Outdoor Storage – If it’s indoors, you might only need a simple wall-mounted case. If outdoors, it’s worth investing in a weatherproof, heated, and insulated cabinet.
  • Security Features – In busier areas, a lockable cabinet (either key or code access) can help prevent tampering.
  • Visibility and Accessibility – The cabinet should be placed somewhere obvious and easy to reach, with clear signage so people can find it quickly.
  • Material and Durability – A strong, weather-resistant material like stainless steel or polycarbonate will keep your defibrillator well protected.
  • Temperature control features – Some cabinets also come with a thermostat that keeps the defib cabinet above 7*c.

Making sure your defibrillator cabinet is always ready to use

Having a defibrillator is one thing, making sure it’s in working condition is another. Regular checks are essential to ensure the device is fully operational. Many defibrillator cabinets have inspection windows, so you can quickly see if everything is in order without opening the door. We also offer defib monitoring and tracking solutions to make it even easier to ensure your defib is in perfect working order.

Register your automated external defibrillator

We recommend that you register your defib cabinet.

Your first point of call is to register your defib with The Circuit. This is fully funded and run by the BHF.

If you’d like to register your defibrillator and cabinet with your local Ambulance Service too, so they can grant access to anyone in an emergency, you can do by using the contact details listed below for your local service
