Thanks to years of campaigning by the Oliver King Foundation, schools up and down the UK now each have a lifesaving defibrillator, and pupils have access to important training. However, cardiac arrest is not the only medical challenge that schools need to tackle.
Young people are far more likely to come across a catastrophic bleed injury than they are a cardiac arrest – through knife crime, an accident in school, at home or a workplace, or a car accident.
The Daniel Baird Foundation believes that schools should have the medical equipment to control critical bleed injuries and to be able to provide young people with the knowledge and skills to use an emergency bleed control kit to save a life. The Daniel Baird Foundation will continue to lobby the government to make emergency bleed control kit training as part of the PSHE syllabus.
Almost 30,000 bleed control kits can be found across the and they are used by the public every week to save a life, be it from knife crime, a fall, a school or workplace accident or similar. Over 4,000 of these are housed in dedicated bleed control cabinets, accessible 24-7 to anyone who requires the lifesaving medical equipment.
Having worked with hundreds of charities, community groups and business, we know that collaboration always builds more successful outcomes. Therefore, we’re helping schools to seize the opportunity to work with local businesses and residents, as well as parents, to ensure everyone in their community can access a bleed control kit in the case of an emergency.
Please send an email to [email protected] and we’ll send you our fundraising pack, which includes a poster and content to use on social media or school message apps.
You will also receive details of our special Emergency Bleed Control School Package, which is a reduced cost. If schools publicise their fundraising campaign to gain the support of their local community and parents, we’re confident that they can reach their goal.
Good luck with spreading the word about installing a publicly accessible bleed control cabinet at the heart of your local community – your school.
